When the news came that TR was shutting down I was shocked and figured it was from some 3rd hand site that assumed. I was even more shocked to see it on the front page of the TR site. In the history of MACO we have only had games die due to being very old or being replaced by a better game but we have never had the doors shut on us. I started looking into this problem more in detail and started my own research with some help of a few Marines with a little more insight in some other aspects of games. I have now come to my own theory on what happened.
After some of the beginner ideas of MMO’s died out due to old age they were replaced with a few games one of them being World of Warcraft which spoiled most people that never had played a game like it before. Blizzard was a solid company that knew how to make a game for the average moron. This game also was one of the first along with everquest to have a “paid” subscription for the game that shocked many people. This started fueling the gamming economy and paved the way for others to charge usually the standard amount of 15.00 a month. Then when World of Warcraft became boring you had an option to move into more adult games such as EVE online and the more advanced FPS games like COD and Battlefield 2. This divided the gamers into FPSer’s and MMOer’s. It also separated the people who knew their own computer specs from people who didn’t.
THEN THE US ECONOMY WENT TO HELL and nobody was able to buy new computers or upgrade the ones they had. Then to keep their basic cell phones on everyone had to start cutting from their spending such as a monthly payment to a MMO. Something most FPS’s don’t have. Along with money the quality of people lowered keeping us with the bottom of the barrel. Back in the older games clan leaders knew how to lead and how to get shit done. This created fun wars and action that added to your game play. Once that died MMO’s struggled to survive. The last MMO for big pvp was EVE but the extreme predjuce of that game makes it so anyone who is not from Europe is exiled. EVE is filled with European extremist and political fanatics. Then everyone spread to the edge of the MMO world finding the new games but that were struggling and finally it brings us to this day the end of all MMO’s. Almost every MMO out right now is dying or dead and leaves us with FPS’s and we wait for new MMO’s such as stargate worlds. All we can do right now is do our best to avoid failing companies and stick with FPS’s and games we know are not going to die. The failure of Tabula Rasa cannot just be blamed on RG or NCsoft but the quality of people playing the games and the US economy.
